Your job didn’t provide you with a laptop. Or a tablet. But you need to check your email or make a few quick changes to that presentation you’ll be giving in the morning. What are you supposed to do? Thanks to VPN, you can connect to your company’s network securely using your Android smartphone.

Server Side

If you want to connect to your work computer from the comfort of, well, anywhere, your business must have a VPN server configured on the network. If your company allows remote access, chances are high that there is a VPN server set up. (Check best vpn kodi Now )

Before you can connect, you need to know which protocols are used by the VPN server. Typically, they will be one of five: SSL, SSTP, IPsec, L2TP, or PPTP. The VPN client software on your Android smartphone has to support the protocol used for all of this to work correctly.

On Your Phone

Most Android smartphones have a built-in VPN client. Go to settings and then wireless and networks menu. You’ll see VPN settings. Select the type of protocol to be used: L2TP/IPsec CRT, PSK, L2TP/IPsec, L2TP, or PPTP. It’s important that you know that PPTP is the least secure of all your choices.

Give the VPN a name. Next, enter the public IP address to set the VPN server. Leave the encryption box checked. Next, you have to enter a username and password. These will either be your domain credentials or those that you use for a local account on the VPN server. You may need to enter the VPN server name; contact someone in the IT department for the information.

Once you have entered all of the necessary information, tap on Connect. If you have entered everything correctly, you will get a pop-up message telling you that the VPN is connected. Now that you have established a secure connection, you can browse the intranet, access files, check your email, or control your work computer by creating a Remote Desktop Protocol connection.

When you want to disconnect, tap the name of the VPN connection.

You do not need to use the VPN that is supported by the Android client. You can easily locate third-party software to install on your device. One of the easiest things to do is to contact your company’s VPN service provider and see if they make software for your particular phone.

When you use a VPN to connect your company’s network to your phone, you turn your smartphone into a power horse. Check your work email, catch up on the latest goings on in the office, read files, or browse the intranet. Just don’t tell your boss that you have the capability if you don’t want to take your work home with you every night.

If you use a smartphone not utilizing the Android platform, you can still connect to your company’s network via VPN. Stay tuned for tutorials on how to make this happen for your particular device.
